MPI is proud to welcome Grammy winners
The Del McCoury Band
May 2-4, 2011
There is no finer bluegrass band than the Del McCoury Band. Having recently celebrated 50 years in the business, Del McCoury’s soulful high, lonesome voice is one of the finest of all time. Del, along with his sons Ron on mandolin and Rob on banjo plus acclaimed fiddler Jason Carter and bassist Alan Bartram, continually tests the boundaries of modern bluegrass music, a feat that has earned them slots at Bonnaroo and made fans out of Elvis Costello and Björk. Since the mid 1990s McCoury has delved heavily into contemporary material, collaborating with Steve Earle and Dierks Bentley, and covering songs by Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Richard Thompson.
Both as a unit and as individuals, the members of the Del McCoury Band have won more than 40 International Bluegrass Music Association awards since 1990, including eight Entertainer of the Year trophies and eight mandolin trophies for Ronnie. In addition, the band’s version of Richard Thompson’s “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” won their first IBMA Song of the Year award in 2002.
High profile television appearances include dates on Late Night With Conan O’Brien, The Late Show With David Letterman, Sessions on West 54th and two installments of PBS’ All-Star Bluegrass Celebration. The Del McCoury Band have been members of the Grand Ole Opry since 2003.
